On Sunday 7 September 2008, The Catholic Social and Community Council (CSCC) organised a Funfair for all the poor and needy who is under care of the Catholic welfare organisation here. And since SSVP is also one of the Catholic welfare organisation, we were involved in it.
The name of the event is The Big Day Out, it’s a FREE fun fair event for the poor. Yes, it was FREE… we distributed the FREE funfair coupon to the poor, where they can exchange with, of course, FREE meals, drinks, dessert, hamper, game, etc.

SSVP OLSS Conference Stall (our conference stall)
DH had been busy this past few weeks to lead SSVP OLSS for this event. Our conference participated in providing FREE food which we ordered from The Crisis Center - it’s a center for abused maid and wives. To help themself, they take order of finger food like springroll, sandwiches and curry puff.
That sunday at 7.30, by right, DH should be at the church to collect the food from Crisis Center. However, he overslept. He jumped from the bed and quickly dressed up without showering first, then off he went to the church at 8 o’clock.
DH and 3 other members reached the funfair venue at the Holy Innocents’ High School at 8.30am. Me and other members joined them in the afternoon 11am after distribution of rations to FINs. From 40 FINs that registered to go to the funfair, only 20 joined that day. Luckily we only booked one bus.

other food stall
When we arrived there the place already crowded. FINs had been given coupons to enjoy the food, drinks, dessert and games for FREE. I hope they had a good time there and I think they were, cause when we gather to go back to church by 2.30pm, it’s almost everyone has something with them, children has toys with them and adult has a big hampers with them, in additional to the food they take back for the family member at home
It was quite tiring to run the stall from 9am to 3pm, but we have no complain at all. We were happy to serve others who are less fortunate. Why? Because God always provide enough for us, thus we have to share our joy with those who are in need.

performance by children from children home
Maybe some of you wondered why I put all the word “FREE” in capital letters? It’s because here in singapore, people are more sensitive to the sound of the word “FREE” more than anything else. Even in a funfair where everything is FREE….
This is DH’s experience yesterday in distributing a lot of sandwiches on a big tray:
- DH: “Would you like to have some sandwiches?”
- People: … *silence*
- DH: “Any of you wants some sandwich? We have Egg and Sambal Udang”
- People: … *another, deeper silence … nobody take the sandwich*
- DH: “Anyone want some FREE sandwich?”
- *the whole tray of sandwiches was gone in less than 30 seconds*
Pattern from Jean Greenhowe free pattern. I like her knitted toy, very colourful but I never knit use her pattern yet, so I tried her free pattern and it’s really easy. I ordered 3 of her book and hopefully it will arrive safely next week. Mean while these are rainbow babies - pink and violet. DH adored the pink one, maybe because of her red cheeks

violet - rainbow babies with rainbow pocket. I only did one pocket, they have to share.

pink - rainbow babies. I think her cheeks not red enough yah but cute though

the rainbow babies on the ‘cloud’. I used toy-stuffing as the ‘cloud’

the real size, it’s just a little bit bigger than my palm. Size approx 17cm
